TMJ and Sleep Disorders-“What the Orthodontic Practitioner Should Know”
This will be a jam-packed day of clear, concise, didactic material punctuated with consensus clinical correlations, and many case histories. The audience will be given answers to many orthodontically related questions.
This lecture will focus on a system designed to assist the clinician in triaging Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD) from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) for Advanced or Phase II Orthodontic Treatment planning.
It will provide the answers for how to transition from Phase I TMJ rehabilitation and address OSA while completing orthodontic treatment.
Presentation topics will include the importance of evaluation for: nasal airway, dental relationship to the properly positioned maxilla, phonetic position for orthopaedics (TMJ stability) and airway.
The attending clinicians will complete this lecture with an increased understanding of lateral and anterior tongue thrusts, how to close open bites, and how to determine if you still need the same vertical dimension as when the case was started. Pediatric, adolescent, and adult orthodontic cases will be presented.
