The doctors of the TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centres have received advanced training in the treatment of sleep disorders and are graduates of the Institute for Advanced TMJ Studies, taught by Dr. Steven Olmos. By implementing the methods developed by Dr. Olmos for diagnosing and treating sleep disorder, the doctors are able to make use of non-invasive and non-surgical approaches to achieve the safest and the most rapid and lasting recovery. The doctors are assisted by professionals who have also received advanced training in the treatment of sleep disorders. Dr. Olmos has been in private practice for more than 23 years, 18 years of which he has concentrated on treating TMJ. Recognizing the need for expertise beyond general dentistry, Dr. Olmos has pursued additional education and certification that includes:

Dr. Douglas Smith

Dr. Smith hails from the East coast. He received a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1973 from Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He served as a practicing chemist and won special chemistry awards prior to attending New York University Dental School from 1978 to 1982. Dr. Smith completed his General Dentistry Residency at University Hospital in New Jersey and established a private practice in Manalapan, New Jersey in 1983. In 2005, he moved cross country to join the TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre in La Mesa, CA. Dr. Smith has more than 1,200 hours of continuing education with a concentration in TMD. He was awarded Fellowship status in the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain in 2005.

Dr. David Shirazi
David Shirazi, D.D.S, M.S., L.Ac, FAACP
Dr. Shirazi Dr. Shirazi earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the internationally-renowned Howard University College of Dentistry and continued his studies in Chinese medicine, acupuncture and herbology at Samra University of Oriental Medicine, earning a Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine. He is a California State Board licensed acupuncturist and an active member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity, Santa Barbara/Ventura County Dental Association, and the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. He has completed two mini-residencies at the China Beijing International Acupuncture Centre and at Kyung Hee International Oriental Medicine Hospital in Seoul, Korea. In addition, he is educated in a variety of alternative, non-invasive medical treatments, as well as homeopathic therapies. Among the most important philosophies behind Dr. Shirazi’s work is that quality of life improves dramatically when the body is pain-free. He especially enjoys helping patients who have been met with great challenge in achieving this goal, employing the most holistic and non-invasive procedures possible. Dr. Shirazi is a proud member of "El Proyecto del Barrio," a small but dedicated group of dentists that provides dental healthcare for underprivileged children. Among his hobbies are hiking and camping, diving the world’s oceans, perfecting his photography skills and reading up on how to better his patients health.

Dr. Melody Barron
Dr. Barron is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry class of 1992. She graduated with honors, and she also received the American Association of Orthodontics’ award for interest in the growth and development of the craniofacial complex for that graduating class. Previous to attending UT College of Dentistry, Dr. Barron had received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Medical Technology and had a ten-year career in a hospital medical laboratory.

Dr. Barron completed a two and one-half year continuing education program in orthodontics from the United States Dental Institute. She has treated patients with general orthodontics since 1994. While attending further continuing education in general orthodontics, she became interested in the treatment of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction known as TMD. Dr. Barron attended a mini-residency for therapy and treatment of the trempormandibular joint. In her treatment of patients with TMJ dysfunction, she found that many of these patients also suffered from Sleep Disordered Breathing or Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Memphis TMJ and Sleep Therapy Centre is dedicated to a comprehensive and differential approach to diagnosis of temporomandibular dysfunction and treatment of patients with sleep disordered breathing as well as general orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Our office utilizes advanced diagnostic tools such as Joint Vibration Analysis, Spiral Tomography, Rhinometery and Pharyngometry.

Dr. Barron and her staff attend extensive continuing education in the field to stay current on advancements in diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Eugene Kulaga
Eugene S. Kulaga, D.D.S., F.A.G.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.A.F.O.
Graduated from Georgetown University School of Dentistry.
Completed over 800 hours of continuing education including a mini residency and advanced mini-residency on temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). Other education includes an orthodontic mini-residency and sleep disorder courses.

His philosophy of treatment is a conservative, non-surgical approach with a multidisciplinary referrals to physicians as needed. State of the art equipment the office uses includes: EMG, Joint Vibration Analysis, Jaw Tracking, Pharyngometer/Rhinometer, tomography, and T-Scan (for occusal analysis). Physical therapy modalities include:

Energex, Iontophoresis, Ultrasound, Phonophoresis, and TENS.

Dr. David Rawson
Dr. David E. Rawson has been providing quality dental care to the residents of the Westmount area of London, Ontario since 1979. He is a member of the Canadian Dental Association (CDA), International Association for Orthodontics (IAO), American Association for Functional Orthodontics (AAFO), Ontario Dental Association (ODA), London & District Dental Society (LDDS), and the London Academy of Dental Studies (LADS).

Dr. Rawson is married and has has three sons who are in their twenties.

Dr. Rawson enjoys photography and playing squash. He also has his pilot's license and enjoys flying.
