Adult

Once a patient has been diagnosed with a sleep apnea condition, oral appliance therapy (OAT) is often a non-surgical option for treatment. These appliances can be very effective for patients who suffer from snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnea. Oral appliances may also be recommended for the severe sleep apnea patients if they are unable to tolerate CPAP.

Children

TMD (TMJ disorder/dysfunction) although most commonly thought of as a disorder affecting only adults, can present in children at an early age. Simply noted as TMJ Children and Bruxism Children, the symptoms for the children may be milder or, unlike adult onset, it may simply be that these young children have always had symptoms of jaw pain and headaches or difficulty in normal functions of opening, chewing, swallowing, speaking and communications. As sad as it sounds, they know no difference and assume pain and/or difficulties with function are normal and what everyone experiences.

Adult

Once diagnosed, the treatment goal is always non-invasive, therapeutic rehabilitation instead of surgery. The treatment options vary depending on the condition and the individual patient’s needs and desired results and most commonly includes short term wear of customized positioned orthotic appliances (not splints) in the mouth during the day and/or the night. Some plans with involve physical medicine treatments to enhance the healing process and provide pain relief during rehabilitation.

TMJ Children | Childhood Sleep Disorders

Although TMD (TMJ disorder) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are typically considered 'adult' conditions, they do not have age boundaries and they do affect otherwise healthy children. They may in fact be the root cause of behavior and attention problems.

Sleep Disorders

TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre provides dental sleep medicine, which is the management of sleep-related breathing disorders, such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), with oral appliance therapy (OAT).

TMJ

Because we know that treating the root cause of your TMJ problem (not simply providing symptom relief) is the key to successful therapy results, our first and most important service is comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic testing.

This service will likely include:

1. Review of your detailed health history provided through individual completion of our Patient Questionnaire

2. An evaluation and measurement of you mandibular and cervical ranges of movement (comparing your ability to move your lower jaw and your head to what is considered standard)
